5 Summer Makeup Dupes You’ll Want To Use All Year Long

Summer is the season to take a little more off… makeup, that is! When the mercury starts to rise, it’s all about lightening up your beauty routine. Bare skin — sun-kissed with a brilliant golden glow — is summertime’s quintessential look. Keeping a fresh face through sun, surf and sand requires a special set of products thanks to soaring temperatures and excessive humidity melting the makeup right off your face. But investing in sun-safe essentials shouldn’t (sun)burn through your wallet.

5 Next-Level Ingredients That’ll Make You Rethink Vegan Skincare

Veganism has long been one very suspect life choice. So many questions and comments: But how do you get your protein? Are you trying to starve yourself? Kill me if I ever have to live without cheese. And the skeptics don’t stop at criticizing the diet—for some reason, vegan skin care is still more or less seen as a sort of woo-woo, hippie-dippie niche that will never be as effective as slathering on product cocktails of synthetic and animal-derived ingredients. The truth is, plant-based beauty is legit.

Mother Knows Best (Most Of The Time)

Think about it, before we were old enough to read a fashion magazine or even buy our first lip gloss, we could still watch mom at her vanity doing her daily makeup routine. We’d marvel as this woman with her arsenal of beauty tools, each with its own mystical purpose, who somehow knew how to perfectly use each and every one. You could almost say moms were our first YouTube tutorials. That’s not to say that mom was always right.

Like these pairs of skincare ingredients, all of which work powerfully alone but even more effectively when they have their BFF at their side. Read on to learn which synergistic duos will dramatically elevate your skincare routine (as well as the few that don’t play as nice). Ask any dermatologist, aesthetician or your aunt who’s been telling everyone for years that she’s only 35, and they’ll all tell you: Sunscreen is the number-one beauty product. It’s no secret that UV rays accelerate aging, so it’s common knowledge now that stepping out without sunscreen is willingly morphing yourself into the Wicked Witch of the West.

Natural Facial Serums That Kick Aging In The Ass

When it comes to your beauty budget, I’ll bet you pony up the most on serum. Yes, serums are usually a lot more expensive, but they’re also super concentrated (a little goes a long way) and deliver quickly and visibly on their promises–which make them worth that side job you work to pay for your regimen. However, if you prefer to use only natural ingredients, you might be feeling left out while everybody else raves about how retinol has turned back the clock 20 years. Well there’s no need, my friend.

So It Looks Like We Mostly Failed Our Spring Cleaning Challenge

For our Spring Cleaning challenge, many of us tried to purge things that, let’s be real, are difficult to abruptly eliminate. It might seem easy to delete tens of thousands of emails or suddenly Mary Poppins the crap out of your house, but these things are really about built-in habits — and some habits are just not going to die (and maybe some habits aren’t even all that bad and should be allowed to continue living). Either way, read on to learn what we tried to Spring Clean, successfully or otherwise, and the lessons learned. Can you relate?I’m a huge believer that your reality is constructed inside your head, so this challenge was perfect for me.

Korean Beauty Is Taking Over Your Beauty Cabinet (and Here’s Why)

Ever wonder why the counters at Sephora are stocked with essences, sheet masks, and alphabet creams? There are a few reasons:First, Korean women have insanely high standards for their face. You might’ve noticed this already watching the backup dancers in “Gangnam Style,” or Olympic figure-skating gold medalist Yuna Kim, or just about any random Korean civilian on the subway. Korean women have zero pores (and definitely no blackheads), zero wrinkles, zero sagging and zero dullness. There is only the illusion of that highly coveted flawless sheen.

Athleisure Beauty Is Total BS (Except For This One Brand)

The other day, I committed to a cycling class, champagne lunch and a writer’s deskside — all within a span of three hours. I first cursed myself for signing up for the cycling class before developing a game plan based on this fact: There is no way in hell I can take a shower. This is when “athleisure beauty” would come in handy. Many popular brands (including my beloved Tarte Cosmetics, givers of my newly unchapped lips) have come out with kits expressly meant to be used during and after a workout.

Are These Facial Oils Really Worth The Hype?

It wasn’t until recent years that I discovered that certain types of oil could actually work in my favor. Since my skin is combo—probably the curse of all skin types, if you ask me—my T-zone acts up on the daily, but I also run the risk of parching my skin if I avoid moisturizing cleansers and lotions altogether just to beat that dreaded 5 o’clock shine. I really need to strike the perfect chord, so when I discovered that oils like rosehip seed, almond and tsubaki could actually balance my oiliness, everything changed. These provide adequate moisture so that my skin doesn’t go rogue and produce more sebum to overcompensate.
