Skincare Meets Makeup: Hello FAB Collection + Review

Call me obsessed, but I love First Aid Beauty’s new Hello Fab collection—fusing skincare with makeup to produce four new fuss-free products. Inspired by athleisure, each product is packed with nourishing superfoods so you can enhance the appearance of your skin over time.  Usually I can easily classify if a product is makeup or skincare but even as I type this I’m struggling to categorize this Hello FAB collection…Caffeine Matcha Wake Up Wipes is exactly what I need on those mornings when I can barely keep my eyes open. It’s formulated with antioxidant matcha tea, skin brightening vitamin C, soothing aloe vera, and energizing caffeine—like a cup of coffee for your entire face! You’ve heard me talk about the Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer in a previous post but I seriously can’t get enough of this two-in-one moisturizer and makeup primer.

Shu Uemura X Murakami Oil Shampoo

Although the holidays are over, the limited edition holiday sets are really the gift that keeps on giving…until they sell out.   I was an art history major in college so I’m especially drawn to Shu Uemura’s collab with contemporary Japanese artist Murakami. The hair products are cult favorites, and ones that I use on a weekly basis, just repackaged in a totally fab way. The oil shampoo, which sounds counter-intuitive, is actually a godsend that has completely revamped the way I look at hair products since I started using it in college.

Caitlyn Jenner X MAC Cosmetics

I have to admit it – I am a complete sucker for MAC’s splashy collaborations with celebs and influencers. I love every single thing about them – the snazzy packaging, the bold colors, the collaborators themselves! I bought (twice, actually) Iris Apfel’s entire collection in 2011. I still use Rihanna’s RiRi Woo lipstick and blush/bronzer duo. And don’t get me started on how I live for Carine Roitfeld’s vampy, smudgy eye palette.

The Best On-The-Go Makeup Products

These are the two key factors that help me determine what qualifies as good on-the-go makeup products: Portability and utility. Before you buy that must-have product or before you decide whether it’s worth it to take it in your purse, tote or suitcase, ask yourself this: Can you fit it in your purse or makeup pouch? Is the product bulky in size or compact? Can your product double as something else? Can you use it for day and night? Will it go with your what you’re wearing?I always ask myself these questions and this process never fails me. I’ve saved myself hundreds of dollars just by simply assessing whether this product could really fit into my lifestyle. Maybe you don’t always have time to do your makeup before work but don’t mind adding a coat of mascara in the car, or perhaps you travel frequently but you can’t seem to confine your makeup stash to just the essentials.

Glow-Getter: Pixi Glowtion Day Dew

Last week I squeezed out the last of my trusty Clinique Revitalizing Daytime Moisturizer in Rosy Glow—forcing me to find another moisturizer in my beauty stash, which led me to my latest obsession: Glowtion. Pixi Glowtion Day Dew is a lightweight moisturizing formula with a soft, iridescent pearly finish that absorbs easily into skin and smoothes the way for makeup. It has that perfect dewy finish on my complexion that I can’t get enough of—and did I mention the subtle lavender fragrance? The lavender oil calms any morning redness and the mica helps brighten while kaolin purifies. If you’ve already found your holy grail daytime moisturizer—no worries.

Happy New Year + 2017 Beauty Goals

Happy New Year! There’s no denying 2016 was filled with ups and downs. When I think about the biggest highlights of my year, I can look back on celebrating my first year of marriage, moving into a new (and bigger) apartment (third time’s a charm right?) and getting to travel to Miami and Chicago for my full-time job.  Looking back on my previous beauty goals and seeing my progress has now become a tradition for me. So with that, here’s an update on my 2016 beauty resolutions and a look at my beauty goals for 2017.

Every VS Supermodel’s Secret Weapon

If you watched the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Monday like me, you had two thoughts: I need to go to the gym (stat) and every model’s hair is literally perfection. Surprisingly, the hair was probably the least complicated aspect of the angels pre-show grooming, thanks to one hero tool: the Beachwaver. Unlike traditional curling irons, the Beachwaver rotates in either direction (push a button for left or right and then Go to start curling) and all you have to do is hold on tight. The ceramic barrel won’t damage your hair and you can make the curls as loose or tight as you want.

Tools Of The Trade: ManiGuard

I’ve been cutting back on trips to the nail salon since the holiday season began—actually, I’ve avoided the nail salon altogether so I could reallocate my mani/pedi expenses towards Christmas gifts for my loved ones. It’s been both a blessing and a curse—until ManiGuard showed up on my doorstep. Usually when I do my nails they don’t look very… professional, if you will. You need a steady hand for an at-home manicure, and no matter how slow I go I can’t seem to avoid the spillage.

Link Love: If Not Now, Then When?

I told myself 2017 would be my year. I’ll admit, I was a bad blogger in 2016. I wasn’t posting very frequently and I lost some inspiration along the way. I could sit here and write out every excuse but it’s not worth my time.
