Why Essential Oils In Skincare Get A Bad Rap

As part of our ongoing discussion about essential oils in skincare products – pros and cons – we asked Estefania Vazquez Conde, founder of The Chic Spirit, for her take on the subject (she’s done extensive research on the matter, and writes about it often on her site). TBH, I’m still on the fence: I keep hearing that EO’s ruin the skin’s acid mantle and contribute to irritation and inflammation (aka acne breakouts!), but there’s no denying that some essential oils have positive skincare powers (here’s looking at you tea tree oil). But I’ve been doing a zero fragrance/ essential oil skincare regimen to see if my finicky, breakout-prone, angry skin gets better and I will say that it is difficult to use products that formulate without any EO’s (a moisturizer I have been using, for example, has the slightest bit of lavender oil in it — and it’s pretty far down on the ingredient list, so should I abstain entirely? IDK). My derm said to stay away from them too, at least for the time being, because my skin is NOT happy (that’s what happens when you test so many products).

Sephora Beauty Insider Event + Recommendations

It’s sale time! Sephora is having a special event to celebrate their Beauty Inside Program and they are offering discounts for all Sephora Beauty Insider Members! Not too long ago, I shared why I like to spend my money at Ulta on the blog; however, every time Sephora offers special discounts for members, I never pass up the opportunity. These are one of the few perks of being a Sephora Beauty Insider member so you can save 10-20% on your purchase. Note: For this event you can redeem your offer with promo code once online, but you can use it in stores an unlimited amount of times. As a beauty product junkie, I know how easy it can is to get swept up in the hype of a good sale (especially one of the Sephora Beauty Insider events) and want to scoop up anything and every thing… but not this year.

3 Takeaways From The Blog Societies Conference

Earlier this month I attended The Blog Societies Conference, also known as TBSCon, for a second year in a row. The Blog Societies is a blogger community that I joined back in January of 2017 and the annual conference is a members-only conference that’s filled with networking opportunities, workshops, keynote speakers, and a gifting suite.  All the conference activities this year were taking place at The Hotel at Avalon in Alpharetta, Georgia. Unfortunately, I missed out on Day 1 of TBSCon, the Welcome Party, due to my horrific, unnecessary 8-hour ordeal with Southwest.

Why A Scrunchie Is The Best Hair Accessory

When was the last time you wore a scrunchie? I think I was 16 the last time I reached for one and it was only because I couldn’t find a hair tie in my room so I took the closest hair accessory off my mom’s vanity—a bright colored scrunchie. At The Blog Societies Conference, Goody Hair was a sponsor and they graciously gifted us with a pack of scrunchies—the 80s marvel of a hair accessory. At first I couldn’t help but chuckle because I did not know these were still around and then, I misplaced my trusty little hair clip and found myself left depending on none other than a scrunchie. And it was the best decision because I’ve basically fallen back in love with them.

The Review: Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer

The hype is real, my fellow beauty enthusiasts. Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer ($27) is everything it promises to be — and more. I must admit, after reading a plethora of rave reviews on Instagram, my interest was thoroughly piqued, and I had to try it myself. What struck me most was the coverage — full without looking cakey or like I was actually concealing — and staying power.

Everything You Need To Know About Jade Rolling

It’s all over Instagram: jade rollers, that is. Beauty bloggers and influencers are having a moment with this ancient beauty device — and we’re so here for it. While there are several different types of facial rollers and massagers that will provide lymphatic aid, this post focuses on jade rolling: how to do it, why to do it, and the short — and long — term benefits. We turned to Herbivore Botanicals Beauty Editor, Desiree Pais, (they make a great jade roller) for pro tips on this feel-good look-good beauty ritual.

#Shelfie: June Chow Of Project Skin

“My addiction to skincare began when I was in high school, when I discovered the K-beauty brand, Laneige. I remember using a ton of their brightening products at the time because my objective was to get really clear and bright skin. Eventually, I branched out to other K-beauty brands such as Klairs, Huxley, Blithe, Wishtrend, Leegeeham, and more. And through @projectskin_, I am given many opportunities to try different products from indie brands to luxury brands to K-beauty brands.

Life Updates

I’m a firm believer that bad (and good) things happen in threes. It started last week, before my trip to The Blog Societies Conference (what I also refer to as TBSCon), when I went to my first Orangetheory Fitness class as part of my membership and I strained a muscle in my back while working out on the floor. It immediately started hurting after this core/arm exercise. This happened a week ago Sunday.

5 Reasons Why I Love To Shop At Ulta

Where do you prefer to shop for your beauty products? Ulta? Sephora? Nordstrom? I’m always thinking twice before I purchase a product because first and foremost, I like to make sure I’m getting the best deal possible. I like to shop online but if I’m on the hunt for a new foundation or concealer I like to be in-store to swatch and figure out my match. When it comes to shopping in store, I love visiting my local Ulta. I’ve always had a good experience when shopping there.
